Production Flow of Wires & Cables
Our survey and the experience of our technocrats revealed some causes of the failure of the Wires & Cables of most of the brands available in the market today. They are listed as below :
- Poor / Reprocessed Quality of Conductor and the Insulating Materials, used in producing the wires so as to make the product cheaper and its appearance attractive.
- Manufacturer’s inability to provide uniformity – in Diameter of the conductor and in thickness of insulation through out the length of wires, i.e., the conductor is not in the exact centre of insulation material. Such wires cause the increase in possibility of short circuits and are produced due to the use of obsolete and sub-standard machinery
In order to overcome this problem we had equipped our production with :
- Thorough checks on the Raw Materials, with proper records of cross checks at each stage, and using Pure Bright Electrolytic Copper & PVC Compound.
- The modern and high standard machinery to provide exact centricity of conductor in wires. This helped us to overcome the problem of uneven thickness of insulation. Thus the distribution of electrical charge from the conductor is uniform on all sides for insulation.
GEIPL’s Domestic wires are manufactured in four varieties, keeping in mind the needs of every individual, from untwisted solid conductor wires to Multi-stranded Fire Retardant wires. Basic material used is electrolytic grade copper having 100% conductivity.
GOURAV MULTISTRAND (FR) wires, ranging from 0.75 sq. mm to 16.0 sq. mm are made from pure bright electrolytic copper & Fire Retardant PVC compound. Three reasons of wires catching fire are heat, fuel, and oxygen. The specialty of this compound is that it does not spread fire, instead help extinguishing the fire by an endothermic process, which reduces heat in the substrate. It also makes a glass coating over the PVC thus reducing the amount of fuel available for combustion. It also gives off non-flammable gases and water vapors, which dilutes the oxygen available so as to reduce the burning time. It also enables the wire to operate occasionally at extremely high temperatures of up to 200OC for more than 100 minutes. The voltage loss of this FR PVC at 130OC / 3 hrs is only 0.5%.
While making this variety, we have provided two layers of insulation. They are:
- Thick primary layer of virgin & non-contaminated pure natural PVC, absolutely free of any inorganic chemicals either in the form of coloring agent or fillers, reduces the insulation properties of PVC.
- Thin secondary layer of specially hardened and colored PVC; suitable to withstand the mechanical disturbances of abrasion of wire surface during installation, provides a prominent identification of color as well.
Some Tests of Gourav FR wires are mentioned as under:
- Tensile strength (N/mm) : 17 (minimum)
- Volume resistivity at 270 C : 10
- Emergency overload : up to 120%
The pure electrolytic copper used in “GOURAV (FR/ FRLS/ ZHFR/ FRLS – H)” has a very low resistance. The chart below shows the same : -
Size (in Sq. MM) | # Of Wires | Thickness of Insulation (in MM) | Current Carrying Capacity (in Amp) | Max. Resistance of Conductor at 20OC (in Ohms/Km) | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
In Pipe | Out Pipe | ||||
0.75 | 24/0.2 | 0.7 | 8 | 9 | 24.20 |
1.00 | 14/0.3 | 0.8 | 11 | 12 | 18.10 |
1.50 | 22/0.3 | 0.9 | 13 | 16 | 12.10 |
2.50 | 36/0.3 | 1.0 | 18 | 22 | 7.35 |
4.00 | 56/0.3 | 1.2 | 22 | 29 | 4.60 |
6.00 | 84/0.3 | 1.3 | 31 | 37 | 3.30 |
The conductivity achieved in wire is approximately 6% higher than the minimum specified in the specification that clearly indicates that GOURAV wires can have extra over loading capacity at all times. In order to give longer and trouble-free service throughout the life of our cables, they are provided with high thermally stable PVC compound which enables the wire to operate occasionally at temperatures higher than 700 C.
Our wires & cables are passed through rigorous testing and inspection. At every course of production the wire is continuously passed through many tests – performed during and after extrusion through an excellent setup of testing equipment’s. The wire is tested at each and every meter on line while being extruded from machine for checking the leakage of current and the centricity of the copper conductor.
Every operation of wire is passed through the spark tester at a voltage of 5000V. It is also tested at high voltages of around 11 KVA through an instrument known as A.C high voltage tester. It is also being tested under water at 65oC temp for high voltages as large as 3.3 KV for more than 24 hours. Apart from this Copper & Aluminum are also checked for tensile and annealing strengths in various instruments.
Gourav wires thus have their own standards, which are to meet any adverse condition of operation and give full satisfaction to its users. Thus our Motto rightly goes with such high standards of quality, i.e., “Suraksha Ka Samuchit Prabandh…”
